Eight out of ten Germans clean their teeth properly. However, for many people it is less the fear of the drill that makes them use the toothbrush. More than one in every three people brush their teeth just to look good. In the age group of the 18- to 34-year-olds, the aesthetic aspect was the most important reason for brushing one’s teeth. These are the results of a population survey of the Schwenningen Health Insurance, for which 1,000 citizens were interviewed.

Four out of ten participants reported being dissatisfied with the appearance of their teeth. In order to make them even brighter and more beautiful, almost one in three participants said that it was useful to whiten teeth. Here too, the younger respondents are far ahead: while 43 percent of the 18- to 34-year-olds were open to tooth whitening measures, just over a tenth of the 50-and-older generation was.

What do you think? Should we only brush our teeth for aesthetic reasons?
